Toni says ‘Thank you’ with a close shave

Taking place on June 6th, the shave will be livestreamed on Facebook and people are invited to take part in a Q+A session whilst Toni has her locks cut. As well as supporting Mind BLMK, the hair will go to make wigs for people experiencing health issues.

Mind BLMK, the local mental health and wellbeing charity offer a range of options to help people stay well. With the support of local hair salon, Steve Hilliard, Toni will be helping to raise awareness of the work that Mind do and raising money to help more local people get the support they need.

Toni with her current 'do'

Two years ago, Toni was isolated, lacked confidence and was unable to interact with people. Bringing up her son on her own meant that she found little time for herself and didn’t really know what to do. After realising that she needed to do something, she happened to walk past the Mind BLMK group in Ampthill and got involved.  In the beginning, she just attended the walking group but as her confidence grew, she also started attending other groups and activities. Now, Toni feels her confidence is increasing, she has made new friends and is feeling more positive about the future.

Toni said:

The people at Mind BLMK have been brilliant. I thought I was on my own, but actually there are others like me and we can support each other.

With one in four people experiencing a mental health problem each year, the need for services like Mind BLMK is clear. Last year, they provided over a hundred thousand hours of support to thousands of people in need. With a new Peer Support service being launched in April, Mind BLMK continue to work at the heart of communities to help everyone have better mental health.
