Mental Health Awareness Week 2019

During Mental Health Awareness Week, Mind BLMK’s Training team delivered 13 courses across Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes to non-mental health workers in the subjects of Mental Health First Aid Lite (MHFA half day) and See the Signs (suicide awareness).

Health Education England funded the provision so we were able to offer the courses free of charge.

Mind BLMK worked in partnership with Health Education England, East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) and Public Health Milton Keynes & Bedfordshire.

Participants attending the MHFA Lite will be better equipped to deal with a person experiencing a mental health difficulty therefore being able to offer support in the recovery of mental health and to signpost to the correct organisation where appropriate. This in turn will assist with mental health support and recovery and reduce the impact of the person with the mental health difficulty deteriorating into a state of poorer mental health.

Participants attending the See the Signs training will be better equipped to communicate information regarding suicide awareness and feel positive in how to approach a person who they are concerned about which can help with the reduction in the number of suicides.

The overall impact will lead to a better equipped non-mental health workforce who will be able to act quickly with the knowledge they have gained through attending the training.  This can reduce the amount of lost working days within the workplace and lead to people being signposted to the correct mental health professional when needed, therefore reducing the cost of long term mental health recovery.

Participants wishing to raise more mental health awareness in their workplace or community will be able to connect with Mind BLMK to support the promotion of this.
