What is the service?
Mind BLMK are offering support to unpaid carers of people with mental health conditions, addiction, or dual diagnosis. We offer a safe, non judgmental space with understanding of the unique needs and difficulties that can be experienced when caring for someone with mental health difficulties or addiction.
Who we support
Any unpaid carer living in Milton Keynes. We support those aged 18+ but can help those under 18 to get appropriate support.
How to access support
Referrals can be made by completing the referral form on our website. *Note Service opening in early 2026
We accept self referral or those from a third party such as GP’s, and the other partners in MK Carers network with consent of the individual being referred.
Once the referral is received the Carers Navigator will attempt initial contact within 3 working days.
After initial contact the Carers Navigator will:
- Share information about the service
- Have an initial chat to ensure this is the right service to meet needs
- Book in a more in- depth session to develop a support plan and identify areas of support
- Offer further 1-2-1 appointments to implement support plan
- Ensure a sustainable exit with carers feeling empowered for the future.
What support can I access?
Support is via 1-2-1 appointments which can be face to face, telephone or online.
Each carer will receive individual support to meet their own unique needs. This might include:
- Developing an action/support plan and a toolkit of support
- Information and advice to help identify options and make informed decisions
- Promoting positive aspects of the role and help reduce stigma around mental health / addiction.
- Providing psychoeducational and condition specific and specialist information and guidance alongside support to navigate clinical mental health and addiction services where appropriate.
- Exploring self care, wellbeing tools and techniques e.g. managing stress and anxiety, building confidence and self esteem, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, journaling, creative outlets, physical activity, sleep, nutrition. This may also include managing boundaries and communication.
- Connecting and facilitating communications between the carer and other relevant service providers including specialist advice services and MK Carers Network.
- Signposting to wider resources and information.
- Develop support networks – build community, reduce isolation.
- Crisis and emergency planning and de-escalation techniques
