Why did you want to work for Mind BLMK?

As a qualified counsellor, I have always enjoyed the challenge of working with a variety of people from many different walks of life. Working within the mental health sector and specifically crisis, appealed to my skillset and how well I work in crisis situations.  Seeing our service users engaging and thriving is so rewarding. Helping people in their life’s journey feels like I am making a positive difference in someone’s life.

I chose to work for Mind BLMK for all that it stands for and the rapid growth of people becoming unwell with their own mental health conditions.  I have a real chance to assist Mind BLMK in growing and developing to support those in need.  I hope we can continue to grow and reach those who need us most.

Tell us about your role and any progression?

I joined Mind BLKM nearly two years ago as a Crisis Recovery Worker, working alongside my day job.  Within 10 months I had been successfully promoted to Crisis Café Manager at one of our sites. Last year I earned a further promotion to Crisis Project Development Manager.

In my current role I oversee our adult crisis cafes. We have 5 crisis Cafés that cater for adults 18+ with a current staffing level of around 28 people. This is both challenging and rewarding to see the service growing as we support our service users.

What do you enjoy the most about working at Mind BLMK?

I love the challenges that each day brings. No two days are alike. I’ve got a great staffing team that I manage, all of whom are so dedicated to those who struggle with their mental health, especially in crisis. My colleagues are my support network within my role, especially my line manager. Having that support above me means that I can give the best levels of support to the teams that I manage.

Top tips for new employees?

My top tip would be that if you want to work for Mind BLMK, but you are concerned how it would fit in with your lifestyle and other commitments, come and talk to us. The flexibility within my role means I can be on hand for the evening services I manage and juggle my family commitments as well. This provides a health work/life balance which is imperative for me to thrive.
