Volunteering with Mind BLMK
Mind BLMK has lots of different volunteering roles that are essential for us to help as many people as we do – everything from helping with admin at HQ, to being a mentor and supporting someone in their community. We provide training and support, pay travel and expenses and we see our volunteers as an essential part of our workforce that we are really proud of. Without our volunteers, we would really struggle.
Want to get involved?
Take a look at the options we have. If you see something you think would work for you, fill in the form and let’s get started!
Once we receive your application, we’ll arrange an informal meeting and discuss the role. If successful, you will receive a full induction, we’ll check your references and make sure that you have all you need to start the role.

FAQ’s
Who can volunteer?
Anyone can volunteer and we’d really appreciate your help. We have a range of opportunities so if there isn’t anything here for you right now, keep checking our volunteering page or pop us an email if you have a skill or experience you feel could be valuable to our work.
Can I volunteer if I have a mental health condition?
Yes. We believe that anyone with a lived experience of poor mental health has the potential to be a valuable member of our volunteer team. Lived experience is a worthy tool in supporting others and so we encourage those with experience of living with a mental health condition to apply to volunteer.
We will support you throughout and make sure your own mental health is the top priority but it is important that you feel well enough before committing to volunteering.
How much time will I have to commit and what if I’m only available at certain times?
You can commit however much time suits you. It can be as little as a couple of hours per week.
We understand if our volunteers have other commitments. Some opportunities are less flexible by nature but we will try our best to accommodate the role around your availability.
Each of our roles have different schedules and time commitments and so we have several that take place in the evenings and weekends.
Is there an age limit for volunteers?
Due to the nature of our work and the client group we work with we can only accept volunteer applications from those aged 18 and over.
What skills do I need?
The skills required for a role depends on the opportunity and the nature of the project.
For some roles, there is no specific set of skills required and we only look for enthusiasm, commitment and workplace values. The role requirements will be clearly stated in the role description.
Will volunteering affect my benefits?
As long as you still meet the conditions and inform the Job Centre that you are participating in voluntary work volunteers who are unemployed have the right to volunteer their time at Mind BLMK without having their benefits affected.
Doing voluntary work shows commitment to gaining experience and new skills as well as your own recovery. This in turn can help you get paid work.
Will I get training for the role?
We will provide the necessary training to help you perform your role effectively. All volunteers will receive an induction and training depending on their role when they start. The training provided will be appropriate for the demands of the position and the capabilities of the volunteer.
What will I get out of volunteering?
It depends on the motivations and reasons you have chosen to volunteer. Volunteering is a great way to use your existing skills or further your skills and knowledge, as well as meet new people and gain confidence. And it is also a good addition to your CV.
Many volunteers get huge satisfaction out of making a difference to the lives of anyone with a mental health problem.
Don’t see what you’re looking for?
We’re always open to new ideas for volunteer roles. We may not always be able to accommodate, but we’d love to hear your ideas on how you think you could help our cause.
