David takes on the Blackpool Marathon after a 29 year hiatus!

David has been involved with Mind BLMK for years from volunteering at our Central Bedfordshire support groups, to virtual fundraising in 2020.

David is an avid runner and part of the Stopsley Striders running group. He last ran a Marathon 29 years agin in London, but due to greater work commitments and viral illnesses, he didn’t have the capacity to train for and tackle a Marathon for many years.

On the 21st April 2024, David will take on the Blackpool Marathon, a town close to his heart and a race he took part in in 1989. He will be setting a new record at his running club for the longest hiatus between marathons by a member.

David had his own mental health struggles as a student, but got the help he needed and learnt how to cope and move forward.

“I am well aware that I was one of the lucky ones to make a full recovery, so I am running for those who have been a lot less fortunate than me, and I hope that you will want to help them too by donating”. – David

David has supported Mind BLMK for many year. Between 2006 and 2017,  he used to provide entertainment for our service user’s in Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard in the form of discos, quizzes, stand up comedy and Deal or No Deal sessions. In 2020, David ran a virtual half marathon and also ‘Dressed up for December’ and raised £974 for Mind BLMK.
