Leighton Buzzard 24hr Hockey Match

Supporting the Community – ‘Leighton Buzzard shoots and scores’

On Saturday 14th May at 1.00pm, players, families and supporters all rallied together for one of the most important fixtures on their 2022 calendar.  A 24 hr HOCKEYATHON … all to raise funds for Mind BLMK.

The game kicked off at Vandyke Upper School and included juniors, seniors, walking hockey, as well as Leighton Buzzard’s own flyerz section ‘Yes We Can!’

Emma Claggett, a club representative for Leighton Buzzard HC said:

It was a chance for us to give back to the community.  A couple of our players had previously used your services and when it went to a vote, it was a unanimous decision to support Mind BLMK

Leighton Buzzard Hockey Club is built on an ethos of encouraging everyone to look out for one another, giving all a platform to talk freely, and whose aim is that no one should ever face a mental health problem alone.

From seasoned players to newbies who picked up a stick for the first time, this was an amazing fun packed day full of food, drinks, a raffle, games, prizes and of course Eurovision, where our boy Sam Ryder stormed home with 2nd place.

We know that Sport in general can have a positive impact on mental health and team sports even more so. It can reduce stress, increase self-esteem, and reduce depression and anxiety.

Leighton Buzzard Hockey Club raised a staggering £4,744.88 for Mind BLMK.

We’d like to say a huge thank to everyone involved and to Porsche Silverstone, Leighton Buzzard Golf Course, Chirozone, Studio 83, Oliver and Hare, Arsenal ladies, Mercedes, England Hockey, Amore Pizza and many more local businesses for donating prizes.

Thank you once again Leighton Buzzard Hockey Club, we really appreciate your support 🤍
